| Using InfieldOnline
Welcome to InfieldOnline.com This is a subscription service offering tailored online access to all or part of the Main Infield database. The range of information you are able to search online and the frequency of updates is set by the limits of your subscription. If you ever feel that the data you are accessing does not match your subscription please do not hesitate to contact Infield. Logging on Please enter your username and password as they appeared in the email sent to you when you subscribed. Note: if you are accessing the Internet through a network you may have to consult your network administrator to allow the accessing of .asp pages When you have logged on successfully you will be presented with a switchboard from where you can select the file you wish to query. Such as Fields, Platforms, Pipelines etc. There is a default time limit for sessions to use your database if you need the sessions extended please contact Infield. Searching Each of the files can be searched using singular or multiple criteria as required. Search criteria are entered or selected before the search button is pressed. When looking at individual record sheets the buttons at the bottom of the sheet will run a search for all records related to that single record sheet in the file named on the button. E.g. pressing the platform button when looking at a single field file such as Brent will run a search for all platforms on the Brent field. Setting up search criteria: Each of the search files has different types of tools for selecting search criteria. Scrollable boxes allow you to select the parameters for each of the criteria before searching the database. The menu range shown is drawn directly from your dataset. For multiple selections within each criterion Windows users should hold down the 'Ctrl' key. Thus for example to select a parameter for a search for projects in the countries UK and Norway only, users should first click on UK and then on Norway while holding down the 'Ctrl' key, before clicking on the 'Search Database' button at the bottom. Of course other parameters can be set in other menu items before searching the database to further refine searches. NB:If no data appears within the scrollable boxes this indicates that your subscription does not include this data. Empty Boxes allow for the entry of specific text strings. In this case the small help buttons next to the box will show the types of data available. The options shown are those available from the complete database and thus some or all may fall outside the scope of your subscription. Ranges allows for searches for specific or ranges of lengths, weights and dates to be carried out. The range shown is that available from the complete database and thus some or all may fall outside the scope of your subscription. Search Results Search of the database will launch a new screen indicating how many records fit the parameters selected, along with up to ten records from this subset listed to show their Field ID (an Infield Database identification code), Field Name, Water Depth and Date on Stream. Returned searches are split into 'pages' of ten records each which can be navigated between using the buttons at the top of the table. To view all the data held on each of the records simply click on its ID number in the left column. Note Returning back to the search page does not delete the query parameters
already set Saving and Rerunning Searches Each user is provided with their own workspace allowing the sets of criteria used to search the database to be names and saved in a private folder. To save searches enter the name you wish to use in the appropriate box at the bottom of the search screen. Searches will automatically have the name of the file the search is being run on added to the start of the name of the search. E.g. tblplatforms. Note Searches can be run to evaluate the results and then saved by returning back to the search screen and adding a search name before saving the criteria selected To rerun or delete saved searches press the button marked past searches this will open a screen listing previously saved searches. When deleting searches note that pressing the delete button more than once will delete a similar number of searches. Downloading the results of searches CSV file downloads At the top of the search screen list of searchable criteria options allows you to select how you want the results of your search to be presented. Selecting HTML will bring back the data in the format outlined above whereas csv file will bring up a screen on your browser, which will fill with the data results. Each of the data fields on this screen will be separated by "," . The results of searches can therefore be evaluated first in html format and then re-run for csv file download. Once the data has finished writing to the csv screen it can be selected and saved for later use in spreadsheets in various ways. Perhaps the easiest is to save the screen to your computer as a csv file using the 'save as' command available under the 'file' button on the browser tool bar. Having selected this option rename the file to what you want but ending in .csv. This file can then be opened as a standard spreadsheet from within MS Excel for example. If you ever have any problems or questions on using the service please do not hesitate to contact Infield. |
